The school is fortunate to have a very active “Friends” group, who are made up of parents (both of current pupils and past), teachers and governors. The group organises social events, fundraising opportunities and additional activities for the children to enjoy. They have been involved in designing the school logo, assist with after school activities such as Book Week, and produce a regular newsletter to keep parents informed of their work.
The events they have organised range from cake and plant sales, raffles, ‘Recycle with Michael’ (2nd hand clothes collections), children’s and adult quiz events, Christmas fayre, children’s discos, fun runs (we named these ‘Running for Reading’ as the money was used to purchase new books), Easter egg competitions, Harvest Barn dance, class photographs, Christmas card printing, and the ever popular annual school summer BBQ!
Amongst other things, they have been able to fund the transport for many additional trips for the children to events outside of school, organised a ‘climbing wall’ to be brought in, paid for additional equipment for all classes, helped equip a new library, bought stackable staging (costing £1800), and even redecorated the toilets in the school and the school staff room! They continue to fund additional music tuition, buy gifts for the year 6 leavers, and have recently given a very large donation towards equipment for the new school hall.
The Friends are always delighted to welcome new parents and should anyone have any questions or suggestions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We are now on facebook. So search FABAPS (Friends of Alpington and Bergh Apton Primary School) and keep up with all our activities as they happen!
