Swallows Class Focus
October 2026
This half term, Swallows have launched into our exciting new topic, Heroes, and what an adventure it has been! We have been exploring what makes someone a hero and discovering inspiring people, fascinating history, amazing artwork, and thought-provoking ideas along the way.
In History, we learned about the incredible life of Amelia Earhart, one of the first female pilots to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. We were amazed by her courage, determination, and willingness to take risks to achieve her dreams. We discussed how heroes are often people who persevere, even when faced with challenges.
We also explored the inspiring story of Rosa Parks and her important role in the American Civil Rights Movement. Her bravery in standing up for what she believed was right helped to bring about change and showed us that heroes can make a difference through peaceful actions and determination.
Our learning journey then took us back to the time of the Romans. We discovered how they built roads, created impressive buildings, and expanded their empire across much of Europe. We have enjoyed finding out about Roman soldiers, daily life, and the story of Pompeii. We had a really fun immersive day at the Time & Tide, which introduced us to the Queen of the Iceni. This has raised a question for us to debate later in the term- were the Romans heroes or villains?
In Science, we became electrical investigators! We explored electricity, learning about circuits, conductors, insulators, and how electrical components work together. The classroom was buzzing with excitement as we tested different materials and built our own circuits.
Creativity has been flowing in Art, where we studied the colourful world of Pop Art and the famous artist Roy Lichtenstein. Inspired by his bold comic-book style, we created eye-catching portraits, speech bubbles, and posters using bright colours, patterns, and dramatic effects.
Meanwhile, in RE, we turned into philosophers and tackled a very big question: What is truth? We shared our ideas, listened carefully to different viewpoints, and discovered that some questions do not have simple answers.
It has been a fantastic half term of learning, questioning, creating, and discovering. We cannot wait to continue our Heroes topic and find out what new adventures await us next!
